Labor can be unpredictable. Even with the best laid birth plan and preparations, it is very hard to foresee how your little one will make their grand debut into the world. The one thing you can predict is who will be by your side on your journey. Choosing your support team can be the most important ingredient to a fulfilling labor experience.

When labor gives you lemons, let’s work together to make lemonade!

If there is one thing that you can expect from labor, it’s that things will likely pop up that are unexpected. Everyone labors a little bit differently, and we want you to always remember that if you are laboring in a way that is not how you thought it would go, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with your body, baby, or labor. Your medical team is top notch and very good at what they do, and their main priority is keeping you and baby safe. This means that if things start to go off course, they are there with the skills needed to keep things going in a healthy direction.

Together, we are going to explore your options, and you and your partner will decide where we go from there.

Throughout the decision making process, your doula can help facilitate a conversation between you, your partner, and your providers. In order to do that, we might ask questions like these… Do you have questions about the medical tools your provider is suggesting? Here are the benefits and risks of taking this path. What is your gut telling you? Would you like to use this tool to help things along or would you like to talk to your provider about alternatives? Here are some alternatives we can ask about.

Once you’ve had a chance to think and talk things through, you can let the medical team know what you’ve decided.

No matter what path you took to bring your baby into the world, you are doing a powerful, amazing thing! Your support team is by your side every step of the way, listening, validating, and respecting your choices.

You’re about to meet your baby. Lemonade never tasted so sweet!
