At the first birth she attended, Lois Perks knew she had found her passion… to help women have their babies in a way that empowers them and respects the process of birth. The births that Lois was initially a part of served as a catalyst to learn more about birth and to use that knowledge to educate families in the process of childbearing.
In 2012, Lois was certified as a birth doula through DONA International. She became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in 2014, and regularly teaches childbirth classes to expectant couples. Lois also has a background in nursing and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a local OBGYN clinic for 7 years, which served to further her passion for childbirth. Lois became ProDoula certified in labor support and childbirth education in 2016, and is adding postpartum support and placenta encapsulation to her skill set. Having supported over 100 couples in childbirth, Lois brings a wealth of experience with her in prenatal appointments, the labor process and postpartum period.
One of the most rewarding things Lois sees as a birth doula, is couples gaining confidence in each other and themselves, as they walk through the journey of having a baby.
Lois and her husband Steve lives in a beautiful Washington DC neighborhood with their two kitties, Rhodey and Topper, who like to take walks on a leash.
