You are going to be a parent! Congratulations!
What an exciting and transformative chapter of your life.
In case you haven’t already noticed, this chapter also can come with some unsolicited advice from friends, family, and sometimes even strangers in the middle of the supermarket. While this advice is often well intentioned, more often than not it can leave you feeling pressured and judged.
Let’s take a moment and drown out all of those outside voices. Your journey is the not the same as others’ and that’s a good thing.
Let’s focus on you.
So much has brought you to this moment, you are choosing what is best for your body, baby and family, and we know these choices are informed by many experiences throughout your journey to parenthood. DC Doulas respects that.
What does respect mean to us?
Respect means that we trust and honor your choices.
We stand by your side, without judgement or time restrictions, giving you space to make decisions that make the most sense for you and your baby. Every step of the way we are honored to provide unbiased, judgement free support.
Some of the choices you’ll be making may involve questions like when and how you plan your family? Should you do all the research or stick with your gut? Would you like to have an epidural or go the unmedicated route? Will you breastfeed? Formula feed? Circumcise? Co-sleep? Sleep train? Babywear…?
On and on! The list only continues as your baby grows.
No matter what you choose, we know it will be a valid and good choice for your family because you made it with strength and confidence.
Often times, people think a doula’s strongest skill set is their knowledge of and experience with pregnancy, labor, and babies. And it is true that we know a whole lot about these topics and we are happy to share tips and tricks with you as you navigate this process.
But what we are truly passionate about and well-versed in, is meeting you where you are at so you feel supported in exploring what this journey of parenthood should uniquely look like for you.
We’re here to support and listen, and to remind you that you’re doing an awesome job.
Our promise to you: You will be heard, validated, and respected.
We trust you know what’s best. We believe in you.
After all, this is your journey, and it is beautiful!
