Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta for ingestion. Postpartum parents are choosing encapsulation to help them heal and adjust during their postpartum recovery period. All the reports of benefits are anecdotal at this point, but the effects stated are:
- increased energy
- increased milk supply
- decrease in postpartum mood swings
- faster recovery for the postpartum parent
- a decrease in postpartum mood disorders
With DC Doulas’ placenta encapsulation, we prepare you for every step of the process. You will receive instructions on how to package and transport your placenta safely from the hospital to your home. The encapsulation takes place over the course of 2 days, with your postpartum placenta specialist being present about 2 hours each day. While she is at your home, you can ask her about breastfeeding, your healing process, or any postpartum question you may have. Once the encapsulation is complete, you will be provided with instructions for storage and use.
DC Doulas’ placenta specialist has been trained and certified by ProDoula‘s Placenta Prep program. She also renews her certification in bloodborne pathogens and safe food handling annually. These steps ensure that your placenta is handled and processed with to the highest standards of health and safety.
